Abstract

CARRIO, Cintia. VERBAL ALTERNATIONS IN MOCOVI (GUAYCURUAN FAMILY, ARGENTINA). Lingüística [online]. 2015, vol.31, n.2, pp.9-26. ISSN 2079-312X.

In this paper we attempt to establish a typology of the possible verbal alternations in the Mocovi language (Guaycuruan family, Argentina). We consider alternations that take place within the verbal domain, even when some of them have corresponding nominal correlates. We analyze the basic research about Mocovi, and complement it with new data obtained in original fieldwork. We propose and describe five types of alternations involving different morphological and syntactic structures. For each case, we study and explain the semantic, syntactic and morphological contexts that license the alternation in question, and we examine its impact on the argument structure of verbal predicates

Keywords : causative; inchoative; antipassive; resultative; South American languages.
