Abstract

PICUN, Olga  and  ACHE, Sofía. Ethics in social sciences and humanities, a situated practice. Rev. urug. Antropología y Etnografía [online]. 2024, vol.9, n.1, e107.  Epub June 01, 2024. ISSN 2393-7068.  https://doi.org/10.29112/ruae.v9i1.2219.

This paper proposes a theoretical perspective in which ethics, understood as situated practice, is articulated with research methodology in the field of social and human sciences. The starting point is the problematization of the risks that the participation or involvement in a research process could imply for the subjects or groups of study. Through cases and situations we reflect on the ethical problems in the different phases of this process, in dialogue with traditional prescriptive instruments present in the literature on research ethics as well as in the principles stipulated by the regulations. We establish the need for a case-by-case ethical evaluation during the development of each research.

Keywords : social research; ethics; research methodology; protection of research participants; ethical principles.
